Protect the home of Southern Resident orcas

Research shows that endangered species with critical habitat protections are *twice* as likely to be on a path to recovery as those without.  There are only 73 Southern Resident orcas left in the wild, their smallest population in over 40 years.  Protecting only part of their home is only the first step.  Please add your name by December 18th to urge NMFS to give the orcas and their home everything they need to survive and thrive.

Dear National Marine Fisheries Service,

I support expanding federally-designated critical habitat for Southern Resident orcas to include their coastal range. I urge the National Marine Fisheries Service to act quickly to finalize this expansion as soon as possible and give the orcas and their home the protection they need.

The information collected since the Southern Residents were listed under the Endangered Species Act in 2005 clearly indicates the importance of their coastal habitat and the need to protect this area from the top threats limiting their recovery: prey depletion, toxic contamination, noise & disturbance, and risk of oil spills.

This rule is long overdue, and I ask NMFS to finalize this proposal ASAP to ensure the survival and recovery of the endangered Southern Resident orcas.

Thank you,
