Tell your Washington Senators: support Southern Resident recovery!

We're making great progress to protect Southern Resident orcas, salmon, and their habitat in the current Washington State legislature!  All of the orca-related bills have made it past the first hurdles and passed through the first Chamber (either the House or the Senate).

Now we need YOU to reach out to your elected officials in the Washington State Senate and urge them to vote for Southern Resident recovery.

These bills have already passed the House, now they need to pass the Senate as well:

The bills: HB 1579: Habitat Protection for salmon and forage fish. HB 1578: Oil Spill Prevention. HB 1580: Protection from Vessels.

What they do: Protects shoreline habitat for forage fish and salmon; enacts new safety requirements for oil transportation in Washington waters; creates additional regulations for operating vessels around orcas.

Go deeper:  Learn more about this issue and the importance of “the little guys” (forage fish) in this story from KNKX.

Contact your state Senators TODAY and urge them to keep up the momentum to protect Southern Resident orcas, salmon, and their home.

*Note: this action is for Washington State residents ONLY.  If you live outside Washington and want to help, visit our website for information.

Make it personal!  Sharing a story about the Southern Resident orcas and why you care about them, maybe describe a trip you took to see them, or how their lives are so similar to our own offers a connection for your elected officials, and lets them know just how important this is to you.
